Cut Sugar, Calories

STA-LITE Polydextrose is an ideal bulking agent and dietary fiber for sugar replacement and reduced-calorie formulations, offering widespread application potential and health benefits. STA-LITE helps reduce calories by rebalancing bulk, viscosity and mouthfeel in reduced-sugar/fat products. It’s appropriate for “no-sugar-added” or “sugar-free” foods and beverages (dependent on use levels).   Available in liquid or powder, STA-LITE is easy to use in a wide range of foods and beverages and provides 90% polydextrose without sacrificing taste, color or texture. It also exhibits prebiotic properties and a low glycemic response. This aids possible nutrition claims including “source of fiber” or “high in fiber.”

Sugar Reduction

ViaTech stevia-based sweeteners help food and beverage manufacturers achieve optimal sweetness and significant sugar reduction in even the most challenging reduced- and zero-calorie formulations.  Part of what sets the ViaTech portfolio apart from other stevia-based sweeteners is Cargill’s proprietary taste-prediction model, which can precisely predict which combination of steviol glycosides deliver optimal taste and sweetness.

Replace Sugar

Frutalose SF75 from Sensus America is a natural, low-calorie sweetener that is an effective tool in developing products targeted at weight management. The product contains 75% chicory root fiber yet delivers 65% the sweetness of sugar. Its functional properties allow for it to serve as a direct replacement for sugar and HFCS. In addition to its ability to lower calories via sugar replacement, emerging clinical studies have demonstrated its ability to actively support weight management. Research has shown that subjects who consumed Frutalose chicory root fiber saw a reduction in their daily caloric intake of as much as 11%.

Almond Alternative

Research published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, shows that snacking on 1.5oz of whole natural almonds every day—instead of a banana muffin with the same number of calories—reduced LDL (bad) cholesterol (-5.3 mg/dL) and total cholesterol (-5.1 mg/dL) in study participants. In addition, almond nutrients improved a traditional cholesterol-lowering diet (HDL) when substituted for a high-carbohydrate snack. These results suggest that snacking on nutrient-rich almonds instead of a high-carb snack can be a weight-wise strategy and may help improve body composition. In addition, study participants in the almond group experienced reduced abdominal (belly) fat (-0.15 lbs) and waist circumference (-0.31 inches). Each ounce of almonds has 13g of unsaturated fat, only 1g of saturated fat, and packs 6g of protein and 4g of dietary fiber.

Saffron Extract

Satiereal is a patented, clinically-studied satiety ingredient derived from saffron. The satiated feeling induced by Satiereal encourages weight loss while eliminating frustration. Satuereal has a unique mechanism that may support healthy weight management by helping to avoid snacking and compulsive eating behaviors. Satiereal Saffron Extract has been studied in two randomized, double-blind placebo controlled clinical trials – a four-week pilot study featuring eight subjects and an eight-week trial published in Nutrition Research. These studies showed increased weight loss—as well as less snacking and craving—with no reported side effects.

Reduce Body Fat

Enhance the body shaping benefits of functional food with Tonalin conjugated linoleic acid (CLA).  Clinical studies show that Tonalin CLA reduces body fat four ways. It decreases the amount of fat the body stores after eating. It increases the rate of fat break-down. It increases the rate of fat metabolism. It decreases the total number of fat cells. Tonalin is the most researched CLA, with 18 major studies proving its safety and effectiveness. Tonalin CLA is sourced from North and South American natural safflower oil and ensures no production or sourcing from Asia. Tonalin also has earned FDA GRAS approval for food and beverages including milk and yogurt products, fruit juice, meal replacement drinks and bars, and chocolate.

ERYLITE Bronze is Jungbunzlauer’s natural version of brown raw sugar: It consists of the sugar alcohol erythritol, a coloring fruit extract and a natural flavor which creates a unique taste sensation. It serves as zero calorie sweetener (in the US 0.2 kcal/g).  ERYLITE Bronze occurs as crystals with a nice appealing bronze color. It has a unique caramel flavor and a sweetness level of 70% compared to raw sugar. It is freely soluble in water. ERYLITE Bronze is non-cariogenic, has a zero glycemic index and is well tolerated.

Carb Controller

Phase 2 Carb Controller is one of a few natural ingredients with at least a dozen human clinical studies demonstrating mechanism of action and efficacy in promoting healthy weight loss. Phase 2 is the only such ingredient that works to reduce digestion of starchy carbs, thus aiding in weight loss when used with a sensible diet and exercise.  A side benefit of supporting healthy blood glucose levels have been reported in clinicals. Pharmachem has created a prototype line called DietSpice, packets of flavored herbs that enhance taste and contain viable amounts of Phase 2 that apprehend a percentage of ingested carbs from being absorbed.

Zero-Calorie Sweetness

Zerose erythritol is a natural, zero-calorie bulk sweetener that looks and tastes like sugar, with a high digestive tolerance.  It is ideal for food and beverage applications promoting sugar reduction and weight management, and masks the aftertaste of intense sweeteners. It is also non-cariogenic, and has been clinically shown to offer better tooth protection than other polyols.  Zerose erythritol will appeal to product formulators looking to create excellent taste, satisfying mouthfeel and appeal to the healthy lifestyle market.

Soy Protein

Many studies have documented the benefits of soy protein. Along with its heart health benefits, research shows that soy protein helps promote satiety ─ which can help with weight management—and supports muscle health. The latest soy innovation from DuPont is SUPRO XT 221D Isolated Soy Protein. It disperses completely in water in only nine seconds. In sensory studies with consumers, the SUPRO XT 221D formula was rated significantly higher in flavor, dispersibility, mouthfeel and overall liking than similar formulas. SUPRO XT 221D provides excellent functionality and is ideal for use in dry blended beverages.

Healthy Approach

BENEO’s functional ingredients bring a healthy approach to weight management, naturally.  Chicory root fiber inulin and oligofructose as well as rice starch help to reduce the caloric value of foods by reducing the sugar and fat content while maintaining taste and texture. Chicory root fibers have also been found to help consumers eat less when included in a diet regimen. Finally, there is a growing amount of evidence that low glycemic nutrition has the potential to manage weight. Both BENEO’s prebiotic fibers as well as the functional carbohydrates Palatinose and ISOMALT have been confirmed to contribute to balanced blood sugar levels.
