Prima Rethinks Protein Bar Formulation
Brand uses tallow and egg yolks to challenge conventional ingredient systems

Prima is taking a different approach to protein bar formulation, building its products around ingredients typically avoided in large-scale production systems. The brand formulates its bars with grass-fed beef tallow and egg yolks, rather than commonly used seed oils, emulsifiers and artificial sweeteners, requiring new approaches to sourcing, stability and manufacturing.
Positioned as an “ancestral” protein bar, the product delivers 21g of grass-fed protein with 10 ingredients and no seed oils. The formulation reflects growing consumer scrutiny of ultra-processed foods and interest in simpler ingredient systems.
Prima’s approach underscores the challenges—and opportunities—of working outside conventional formulation frameworks, particularly as demand rises for minimally processed products built on alternative fat and protein sources.
